National Cross Country Uneven Ages and Novices - Changes Announced

Word has reached us that both the date and venue previously announced for the National Cross Country Uneven Ages and Novice Championships have been changed. Instead of Dundalk on the 10th of December these races will now be held in Athlone IT on Saturday the 9th of December at 12:00 noon, which, incidentally, makes these races much more convenient for runners from the West of Ireland.

It’s also worth noting that this Saturday’s regional cross country races will be held at the same venue and over the same course and so athletes have an early opportunity to preview the course for nationals by taking part in the regional event. The course for Saturday will be open from 9.30am and all registered clubs will receive a programme at check in.

National Marathon Fast Approaching

The October Bank Holiday will see over 10,000 runners from at home and abroad lining up in the capital for 27th running of the Dublin City Marathon. As has been the case for the last three years this year’s race will incorporate the AAI National Marathon Championships. Athenry will have a strong presence at the race with a likely six or seven members taking on the challenge of the marathon distance. Here’s hoping for cool, calm weather on race morning. Good luck and safe running to all.

Racing Alternative on ‘Marathon’ Weekend

For those not taking part in the National Marathon over the bank holiday weekend, there’s a fine road race in prospect at the 32nd Annual Bernie Meaney Memorial 5K Road Race in Kilmurray McMahon Co.Clare. The list of prizes is generous and extensive and looks sure to attract some of the best road racing talent in the West. You could do a lot worse than support this fine event. Revised Result for Regional Cross Country 2006

A commendable Galway showing at the Senior Regional Cross Country Championships last January in Beleek unfortunately came up just short of being a gold-medal effort when a fine Mayo team performance was rewarded on the day with first place in the inter-county team competition. However, following further scrutiny of the results, a miscalculation was uncovered which revealed that shows that Galway were in reality the team victors on the day. The situation has now been recified with medals having recently been issued to the deserving Galway runners. The inheiritors of Gold medal in this situation are Martin Corcoran, John O'Brien, Mark Davis, Michael Tobin, Johnny O'Connor and Gary Doherty. Belated congrats to all for a great race and for keeping the Galway flag flying.
