Runners are often called upon to get involved with fund raising programmes for various good causes in a way that perhaps other sports people are not. Like most other situations such expectations can be viewed either as a difficulty or as an opportunity. What often makes the difference between one view and the other is the closeness to ‘home’ of the good cause in question. One cause that is very close to the hearts Athenry members is providing for the needs of people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Sometimes the two ‘worlds’ cross over in that the group that requires funds to be raised also becomes involved in the fundraising process. Such is the situation in the case of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and their most recent fundraising effort. A number of those most closely associated with the Mayo Branch of CFI are also involved in the most recent fundraising initiative in Mayo. These people also happen to be runners and good friends of Athenry AC.
The Mayo Branch of Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland are trying to raise Euro 500,000 to build a much needed out patients dept for people with cystic fibrosis in the West/North West Region and they are looking for participants to walk/jog/run the race on Sun May 2nd at 12pm

Sponsorship cards and t-shirts are available for all interested.
