A Report from Sean Kendrigan on the All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field

Athenry AC was well represented on the first weekend of the All Ireland Juvenile

Athletes finals in Tullamore. These finals are held over two weekends. Sixteen athletes from Athenry compete in various events, there were a lot of good performances even if only one medal was won. Emma Grady won a bronze medal in the under 14 discus. Emma also finished 6th in the shot putt. Maria Cooney finished 4th in the hurdles and 6th in the long jump (a new national record was set by the winner). Grace Cahill finished 5th in both the high jump and long jump in her first national finals and will surely be a national medal winner in the future as will Jack Fitzpatrick who fell in the wet conditions but got back up and finished 9th in the 600m.

Darragh Whyte set a new PB when finishing 6th in the 100m. Sinead Tuohy set a new PB in the hurdles as did Eilis Hynes in the Shot Putt. Eilis also competed in the Javelin.

Other athletes to represent Athenry at the National Finals were Cian Kelly, Joey Quinn, Mac Murphy, Killian Johnson, Hannah Kindregan, Letica Collins, Kate Gallagher and Stephaine Maloney.

The remaining individual finals will be held next weekend as will the inter-club and inter-county relays.

Who got the medal and was she first, second or third? Not sure that the report has made this clear.
