Fit4Life 5km took place on Saturday 12th November. Race Director Anne Lyng and a strong committee of over 20 people plus an additional 30 volunteers organised this year's race. Now in its 6th year this event is specifically for members of Fit4Life although non members were welcome to run. For some this was the first time they ran 5km and for others their first race. Local clubs participated including over 30 athletes from GCH under the leadership of Bernie Kelly who has supported the event for many years.
The weather was perfect, cold but dry as 124 athletes ran 2 loops of the 5km route. Many athletes achieved their target finishing times as pacers were provided for various time intervals 26, 28 mins etc. Medals were received by all finishers followed by refreshments at The Surgery Athenry who provided their facility for the event. Proceeds from the race were donated to GAP (Galway Autism Partnership) who support families from Athenry.

If your New Years resolution is to start running, why not become a member of Fit4Life? Membership will be available from January 2017. We meet twice a week, Wednesday's at 7pm and Saturdays at 9.00am at the church car park in Athenry. We cater for walkers/joggers/runners and help everyone build up to a distance of 5km. Fit4Life leaders are runners themselves and they run with the group and offer advice and encouragement to the members. For further details please check out our website www.athenryac.com.
