At the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country, held at Santry on Saturday 13th Nov, Athenry athlete Paul McNamara won silver in his M35 age category in his first outing at Masters level representing Ireland.
Paul was fourth overall in the race, just beating Craughwell's Gerry Ryan, though they both recorded the same time. Gerry was competing in the M45 category and, remarkably, fifth in the race was only good enough for a silver in his age category.
Both athletes also won gold medals as Ireland won the team races at both M35 and M45, fine achievements when you consider the traditional strengh of British cross country. Overall it was a fantastic day for the Irish, as you can see at: http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/?p=16181
Here are some photos from the M35 - M45 race, 28 in all. (The first two digits of the race numbers represent the age category).
