This profile was done back in April - I've only gotten around to posting it up now. More women's profiles to come, promise...
1. What running shoes do you train in?
ASICS 2140.
2. How many miles did you run last week?
75 (yippee!).
3. What's your favourite racing distance?
Undecided, perhaps marathon maybe half (ask me after Cork).
4. Where's you favourite place to train?
Dangan with company, roads around Athenry on my own.
5. What's your favourite race or event each year?
BUPA 10km in April.
6. What annoys you most at races?
Men queuing to pee - just use the hedge, God knows I would I could.
7. What race, that you haven't yet run, would you most like to take part in?
London Marathon.
8. What was your best-ever running performance?
Sadly when I was 17-19 I used to be within touching distance of Mary Cullen! Yes hard to believe, maybe I should have left the physio and gone to the States.
9. What was your worst-ever running performance?
National half marathon Waterford last year (2008)... Blacked out at mile 6, came back around and then stupidly decided to continue running. Never forget how important regular blood tests are when training.
10. What's the strangest thing that you've ever seen on a training run?
Ducks in Dangan that somehow like to sit right in the middle of the puddles you are running through even though they have all of the Corrib to swim on without being disturbed.
11. Favourite piece of running gear?
My Garmin...running has never being better since I got it.
12. Who would you most enjoy beating in a sprint for the line?
Any female...come on I’m competitive I’m not going to lie.
13. What was the best bit of training advice you were ever given?
Listen to your body!
14. In ten years time will you still be running?
Well I’ve been running for the last 20!!!ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (I’m getting old) so most definite.
15. If for some reason you were told you could never run again, how do you think you'd react?
I would be swiftly admitted to St. Brigid’s - please God I can always run.
16. Have you ever been bitten by a dog while running?
Yes, three times! I know my legs are a bit chunkier than most athletes but honestly what is the story! Worst one was when I was fifteen, long story short: old dog, I kicked back, pulled bit of his tooth off, ended up in A&E, needle in butt, big wound, antibiotics, scar still evident to date.
17. Have you ever had to stop for an emergency 'Paula' during a race?
Please tell me most marathon runners can at least say ‘yes’, well at least in training. Imodium all the way!!
18. Favourite post-race food?
Diet Coke, fizzy cola bottles.
19. Most embarrassing ever running-related moment?
I think all photos ever printed...running photos should be banned.
20. The greatest Irish Athlete of all time is/was?
..........................................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....I don’t know!
This is something that would take me an age to decide upon. To be honest I think all the Fit4Life people are amazing, even more so than us crazies running miles and miles. Each to their own. Keep it up, everyone.
