Congratulations to all on an excellent day out in Tuam on Sunday, 2 October 2016, day one of the Galway XC, Even Ages and Adult XC championships.
Tuam AC set out an excellent course, both technically and in terms of sheer difficulty, which was challenging to all ages. It has quickly become one of the top Cross Country venues in the country, fact!
Iain Shaw (of this parish) did a brilliant job in the box, getting everyone their entries on what was a record-breaking day in terms of entries and finishers.
Loads of helpers both at the start & finish, and on the course made the events run off like clockwork too.
There were a number of excellent performances in the juvenile ages and both adult races were interesting in their own ways. It was disappointing that only two adult Athenry AC athletes took part, and none at all in the women's race: the road remains a more attractive proposition for many at this time of year with the DCM just around the corner. They missed a modern mudfest, which almost consumed a few of the back markers late in the male race. A tractor had to be called for some of the back markers, and search parties for others!
A full provisional result is attached! Photos will appear in due course here.
