The rescheduled Clarinbridge 10k took place today with nine Athenry AC members towing the start line. There was a hint of sunshine in the sky and racing conditions were pretty good as some of our runners (Majella Cummins) were even able to do the pre-race warm up in the club singlet.
Not many PBs to report amongst us, possibly the over indulgence over the past fortnight, but we can always blame the 2km of this route which went through a demanding but well-maintained gravel trail in the woods.
First lady past the line with a four minute cushion was Jane Ann Meehan in a solid time of 37:18 on a course that had taken its toll on our legs by the 4km mark.
Mary Kealy took the age category prize and was also 4th lady home with a great performance posting a time of 44:02.
The overall winner was Matt Bidwell in 33:20 and both David Meehan and Chris Deakin posted very decent times of 37:21 and 38:28 respectively.
Rumour has it James Lundon fell out of bed Friday night and battled bravely through the 10k with a crick in his neck.
Overall a very well run race, from registration through to the race start which was bang on time (a minute fast actually).
On the course there was a little surface water as expected and plenty of potholes due to the motorway construction but this did little to take away from a solid testing race and has gotten us into racing mode for the year ahead!
