We had 18 members taking part in the recent National Half Marathon Championships which were held alongside the Rock n Roll half marathon in Dublin. There was a strong showing too with two bronze medals making their way back across the Shannon from a notoriously slow course.
Martin Keane proved that he still has plenty of fighting sprirt left with a 2.08.15 & 3rd position in the 70 - 74 age group. Amazingly, the winner of the age group, Christy McMonagle of City of Derry Spartans AC, ran a 1.33.46 (He's twice my age & he can run 3 mins faster than me!!) Our other medal winner was Roseanne Trehy who also took bronze (45 - 49 group) with a 1.32.46 & a brilliant 22nd overall. Congrats to both on some impressive results.
Jane Anne Meehan (1.23.13) & Mick Rice (1.24.11) came close to podium spots, both finishing 4th in their categories whilst Jane Ann finished 5th overall, a fantastic showing against the best runners in the country. We also had strong showings in the team categories with our mens O35 team of Gearoid Rohan, David Meehan & Mick Rice placing 8th whilst our womens O35 team of Roseanne, Orla McCluskey & Mary Rohan placed 7th.
