The third leg of the 5km series took place last night with a welcome return to Craughwell. A route loved by many saw very good weather conditions for the race. There was only a cool breeze to contend with as 700 athletes ran through the hilly roads of Craughwell. The locals gathered at almost every km to cheer on the athletes.

John Greaney (GCH) was first man across the line, followed by Craughwell's Damien Larkin and Lyall Guiney from Athenry AC in third place. Regina Casey (GCH) was first woman home followed by Athenry's Jane Ann Healy and (GCH) Barbara Dunne in third place.

A number of PB's were recorded and others were very close! Donal Leahy finished in 20.22 for his third PB of the series. (No pressure for the next 3 races Donal!) Kevin Devane and Brighid Cannon ran their first sub 24 finishing in 23.59 and 23.50 respectively. Brighid also achieved her third PB of the series. Anne Lyng ran sub 23 finishing in 22.47. Adam Leadbetter knocked 21 seconds off his previous PB by clocking 17.37.

Jane Ann Healy second woman home with a PB of 18.03. Frances Leahy completed the 5km in 25.36 and was very happy with her time following her recent half marathon in Limerick. Marie Cronnelly following a year of injuries got off to a great start running her fastest 5km in 23.55. Seconds behind another PB from Orla McCluskey 24.12. Kieran Guiry ran just shy of his target time of sub 19 by finishing in 19.01. Watch this space! Mary Rohan ran her first sub 22 finishing in 21.40. Sorcha Rabbitte 39.32, Peadar Nugent 36.14, Elaine Glavin 33.33, Darina Keating 31.42 and Teresa McGrath 31.26 also completed the 5km. Elvis also started and finished in costume. The only thing he didn't do was stop in for a burger en route.

Almost 90 from Athenry AC ran last night, nearly half the club which is an incredible turn out! Next leg Claregalway. See you there!
