As always the club were huge supporters of the Streets with a huge 70 members taking part last Saturday (9 August 2014).

Top of the list was Ray Somers who ran a 27.55 for a new PB & 23rd position overall. He was followed exactly a minute later by Mick Rice who is clearly back on form after his troubles last year. We had six members dipping under the 30 minutes with Jane Ann Healy, Gearoid Rohan, David Meehan & Tomasz Kadzielawski also seeing 29.** for the first time whilst Drew Davison narrowly missed out for the second successive race with a 30.20.

There were PB’s dotted throughout the results with Sinead Foran, Pat McDonagh, Mairead Sullivan & Paul Hegarty amongst many others to post new personal bests. In particular Mairead Blake ran a stormer for a 35.17 & a big PB. Amazingly (or sickeningly – you choose), David Noone posted a 32.53 after running a marathon earlier in the day.

We had the long awaited return to the roads of Bernie Mulryan on Saturday with a 37.28; hopefully it will be a prolonged stay this time around. And fresh from his category placing in the National Half Marathon the previous Monday, Martin Keane ran a 44.15 but missed out on a prize this week as Tom O’ Connor posted a 43.17.

Mick Rice was our sole prize-winner on the night, taking 1st position in his age category whilst also being a member of the winning Corporate Team, Fidelity. Jane-Ann Healy was 5th woman home with a narrow gap of 15 seconds to a podium spot. With her steady progression over the last year a top three finish could well be in her sights for next year.

The race was won outright in 23.38 by Martin Fagan who, after his enforced absence from the sport for a couple of years, has shown he is right back in the thick of things of late. He beat reining DCM champion, Sean Hehir, by 24 seconds whilst Freddy Keron Sittuk was a further 8 seconds back in third. With such a stacked field it was also great to see some local runners in the mix with Matt Bidwell & John Greaney of GCH finishing in 6th & 9th respectively.

Crusaders took two podium spots in the women's race as Orla Drumm took the win with a 27.38 & Ilona McElroy was 3rd in 29.35 with Finn Valley’s Theresa McGloin taking 2nd in 28.59. Regina Casey, GCH, narrowly missed out on a podium in a spring finish with Ilona, finishing a second further back in 29.36.
