It was the starting ground for Sonia O'Sullivan and John Treacy, not to mention Paul Hession, who narrowly missed a trip to Mosney, placing second in the county championships at the age of 10 (http://www.therunningreview.com/?p=395). The Community Games gave so many of us (talent not always necessarily guaranteed!) a wonderful start into the world of athletics - now it's time to ensure that the legacy continues.
See message below from Vincent Conway, chairman of Galway Community Games:
"Hi all,
I would like as Chairman of the board of Galway Community Games to request on behalf of Galway Community Games that you might make yourself or personnel from your clubs available to us on the 5th and 6th of June for the County Athletics Finals. For those of you who don't know me I have made huge efforts to ensure that all our events are run by the best people available to run those events and it goes without saying that the best people to run the County Community Games athletics finals are all of you that are involved in athletic clubs. Please let me know if you or any other members can help us on either one or both of these days.
I remain Yours in sport
Vincent Conway
Chairman East Galway A/C"
