Race 7 of the Vodafone C&C Cellular Mayo AC Road League, the Terry Fox 4 miler, took place Ballina on Sunday afternoon.
Over 200 runners and cyclists supported the Terry Fox Cancer Research Foundation in two separate 4 mile races. Michael Rice of Westport and his team organised this successful event and as all entry fees went to the foundation there was no prizemoney.Tea and sandwiches were generously provided free by Murphy Brothers.
The first 25 men and women finishers won points in the league. Gerry Ryan (GCH) was the easy winner in 20.01, his fourth win in four starts in the league and he could win it outright if he beats the current men's points leaders Robbie Matthews (2nd in 20.51) and Robert Malseed (3rd in 20.56).in the final two races at Hollymount and Westport. Next to finish were Ballina AC's Roger Barrett (21.21) and Daniel Murray who ran impressively to be first Junior in 21.22.. League leader Mary Gleeson (Mayo AC) has run all seven races so far and this was her third victory in a fast 23.21, with clubmates Breege McHale (25.14) and Cathy Connolly (25.27) second and third respectively.
