This site, along with many other athletic club websites, depends on dedicated amateur photographers for many of the photographs it uses. Their contributions add so much to our enjoyment of our sport and we always try to recognise their work and generosity. In Galway we've been blessed with the outstanding contributions from local photographers like John O'Connor who put so much time, professionalism and effort into their craft.

In recent times a web-site has been established (www.racepix365.com) to provide a platform for photographers who take pictures at athletics events and who might like to display their work to a wider audience. It's a fantastic initiative and is further evidence of the generous contribution such people make to the sport of athletics.

Racepix365 founder, Darren has asked us to post a few words on this new service and we're glad to do so below.

We hope that this new site goes from strength to strength and that the next time you have a batch of pictures from your local road race or track event, that you might consider sharing both your work and your talent with the athletic world at large.

Share your race photos with the people who value them most – the runners themselves!

RacePix365.com is a free Photo Search and Community website for runners and amateur sports photographers. The RacePix365 idea was inspired by the site creator’s own racing experience: “As a keen runner, I know how runners use the internet to hunt down race pictures for mementos. Following a race, I would search online for race photos in the hope that I’d pop up somewhere. However, as there was nowhere online for photographers to share their photos with runners, finding a photo of myself was a long shot. With more and more people turning up to the sides of races with cameras in hand, I wanted to set up a simple method to allow people share their race photos, while also making it easy for runners to find pictures in which they feature.”

When photographers submit their pictures to RacePix365, the website allows them to record the bib numbers of any runners in their pictures. Runners can then search RacePix365 for photographs in which they appear simply by entering their racing bib number – an easy and unique way for runners and photographers to share those captured moments.

Since launching just eight months ago, RacePix365.com already hosts over 12,000 race photos featuring thousands of runners.

Photographers that want to get involved, simply sign up at RacePix365.com and let us know where they’re going to be taking photographs.
