The 5th North East Galway 10km race took place yesterday in Moylough. There was also a 1.5km run for children and a 5km walk/run. The temperature was a very pleasant 14 degrees (for this time of the year!). There was little or no wind, blue skies and the sun was shining! The route was one undulating lap giving an elevation of only 19 meters for the 75 athletes who took part in the race. The last km was downhill which was a very welcome sight for most. There was great support from the locals who gathered at garden gates and doorways along the route to cheers the athletes along their way.
Derek Naughton won the race crossing the finish line in 37.27, followed by GCHs Eoin Lyons taking 2nd place in a time of 37.40 and Patrick Hanrahan only 1 second behind took 3rd place in 37.41.
It was a double celebration aswell as a great day for the Athenry ladies as Deirdre Brophy won the race in 41.06 and Mary Kealy was 3rd clocking 43.46. Mullingar Harriers, Maura Dervin was 2nd in 43.09. Fiona Doughan completed the distance in 47.45, and first sub 50 mins for both Lorna Freeman 48.48 PB and Anne Lyng 49.43 PB.
A word of thanks to the Moylough community for their hospitality and a wonderful spread after the race.

We would especially like to send thanks to everyone who helped in all the different areas on the day, without them no event could take place. See you next year.
