Lough Cultra situated in close proximity to Gort hosted a variety of triathlon distances yesterday within the beautiful grounds of Lough Cultra Castle. The event catered for all levels of athletes from those who wished to try a tri to the more challenging half iron man.
Super Sprint 400m/20km/4km
Sprint Plus 800m/40km/8km
Olympic standard 1500m/40km/10km
Middle half iron distance 1.9km/90km/21km
All of the races at Lough Cutra Castle kicked off by launching into an open-water swim in the lake, transitioning onto a bike route which circumnavigates Lough Cutra itself for one cycle lap for the Super Sprint and two laps for both the Sprint Plus and Olympic distances. The half iron gauntlet cycle 90km in distance took in the beautiful Burren national park. The final leg of the event is the run covering 4km, 8km, 10km or 21km. Athenry AC were represented by John Langan completing his first half iron man in 5hrs 33 mins. Also taking part in the event was Miriam Wall, Philip Magnier (completing his first triathlon), Darragh McShane and Liam Egan. Congrats to all.
