Tomasz Kadzielawski followed up last week's 5k win with another first place in the Castleblakeney 5k today, running a 18.39 in the process.

In the 8k race Ray Somers was 2nd male whilst Mairead Sullivan was 3rd female.

Full result and prizes is attached.

From the race organiser Vincent Conway:

The organisers of the Castleblakeney 8km and 5km Road Races wish to express their deep gratitude to everyone who helped to make the races this year so enjoyable.

Over 200 people registered to take part in these events with some 102 people finishing the 8k race and 87 completing the newly added 5km distance.    The heat on the day made the going a little tougher than it might have been and the water stations made a welcome site to all runners and walkers.

The races were started simultaneously by Joe Cooney and Sylvie Linnane, two of the true greats of Galway Hurling.   It was fantastic to see that a number of people travelled great distances to support the oncology unit fundraiser, with some from Kildare and the Aran Islands.

Personally I would like to thank anyone who helped in any way shape or form with the event.   A special thank you to my good friend James Lundon who not only ran the race, but who then sat down to a laptop to help sort out results.   Not an easy task on a hot day...   To the Castleblakeney group for allowing me the priveledge of helping such a worthwhile cause.   To our guests, runners, stewards, first aid crews, Garda Siochana and to everyone who stood out to support the runners I say Thank you.    To those who made donations of any kind Thank You. and to all those who made sandwiches or brought treats well done and thank you.
