Three members of Athenry AC have at least one marathon under their belts even at this early stage of the year after Ruthann Sheahan, Valerie Glavin & Ed Egan completed the East of Ireland Marathon Series, Longwood Marathon last weekend.
After easing herself back into training over the last couple of months this was Val’s first completed marathon after a three year hiatus. But knowing Val, this is surely only the start & with a 4.25 completion time this was possibly used as a training run for bigger & better things in Donadea next month.
Ed Egan clocked up another marathon, finishing in 3.54, a huge 30min increase over the Craughwell marathon last month (although there was biblical weather to deal with on that day), dipping under the 4 hour mark for the NINTH time. Ruthann continued her preparation for her upcoming 24hr attempt with a leisurely (for her) 3.19.

If there was a club competition for ‘Most Improved Runner’ it would surely be a non-event as Kieran Guiry would have it completely sewn up. Whilst he was no slouch over the last few years, the last six months have seen a big increase in training miles with his race times improving dramatically.
Kieran used his trip down home in Waterford to take part in the Dungarvan 10mile race over the weekend & finished with a 65.56, an average 6.36min/mile.
