A very fine afternoon greeted the runners for the 4th iteration of the Moylough (North East Galway) 10KM on Sunday (12 October). A good quality race ensured with 22 of the participants breaking 40 minutes, including our own Ronan 'Speedy' McCarthy, for the first time. Very warm congratulations to him on this fine achievement. Some PBs were recorded by others in the club, including Mark Hannon who was until very recenrly worried about breaking 40, and who is now down into the 37s!!!!!
Our own Bernie Mulryan was third in the senior women's race, while it was also great to see old timers like Tony Killarney, Thomas Porter, Tommy Joe Whyte and Roger Rushe still make their way around the course in one piece. They continue to be an inspiration to all us younger runners!
A final word from the organiser, Linda Mellody:
"Another successful event on Sunday 12th, North East Galway 10k held its 4th Road Race. 130 runners showed up on the beautiful sunny day in Moylough, with athletes having a great race and some new names on the winning sheet. Check our our Facebook page for more information and images of the race here."
The full provision result and prizes are attached!
Ray Somers and Damien Larkin, second and third on Sunday!
P.S. Moylough are now the proud owners of an outdoor bowling green, at the race finish libe, perfect for former runners to wind down into retirement. I'm hearing that Vincent Conway of EGAC has already joined the new club there now that his new knees are on the mend ;-).
