Monivea 5K Run and Walk on Sunday 13th June at 12:00pm.

Registration in the Community Centre (Fr. Sammon Centre), Monivea on the day from 10:30 am.

€15 entry.

The Athletics Association of Ireland has issued a permit for the race and the course has been measured and certified to AAI standards.

The first annual Monivea 5K is being organized by Monivea rugby club and should be an enjoyable event for runners and walkers of all abilities.  The route starts at the Community centre in the village, does a complete lap of the famous greens, then up the Athenry road, left on to the bog road and returns via the forest paths and up the Mass Path to finish beside the rugby club (about 400m from the Community Centre).  The start and the finish are quite unique; the start as it loops around the greens in the village will give everyone a chance to see where the competition is and the finish is on a fairly narrow path under towering conifer trees.  The route is extremely flat and is split about 50/50 asphalt roads and gravel forest roads.

There is also a really nice 10k loop through the forest and returning on very quiet country roads if anybody wants to extend their run on the day.

Both the start and finish lines have toilets and changing facilities and there is loads of parking at the rugby club and in the village.

Presentation of prizes will take place at 1:00 pm in the Community Centre. For anybody who thinks that 5 kilometres is too strenuous there will be a short (about 1200 metres) Family Walk through the village and the forest immediately after the main event. Parents are encouraged to bring along their children and there will be medals for all children participating. The entry fee for the Family Walk is €5 per walker.
