After a gap of 15 years, Loughrea is to have its own cycling club, with the first registration of members to take place on Monday. 



 

Seven Springs will be the title of the Loughrea-based club, but members are welcome from all over the East Galway area.

The club who will have a weekly weekend cyling and are already planning to run a ā€˜Time Trialā€™ league every Thursday, starting mid-June for five or six weeks, as well as a hill climb for club ā€˜King of the Mountainsā€™ and road race towards the end of the summer.  



 

Seven Springs also hopes to start a junior section next year, but until then members will have to be over 16. 



 

ā€œIt has been 15 years since there was a cycling club in Loughrea and with the number of people out cycling the roads nowadays we thought that it was about time we got everyone together and see if we can build a club for the region,ā€ club chairman, Brian Martin, said this week. 



 

Most of the now club committee have come from the Predator Triathlon Club, which has been running in the area for some time now.  



 

Annual club membership will be ā‚¬20, and the fee to join Cycling Ireland will also be taken on registration day. The latter will be compulsory for Seven Springs club members, the cost of which starts at ā‚¬10 for a ā€˜leisure riderā€™.

Anyone interested in joining should also bring along ID, in the form of a driving license, passport , or Birth Cert. Application forms from those between the ages of 16-18 will require a parentā€™s signature.

Registration will take place on Monday, May 31, between 8-9pm at Lough Rea Hotel & Spa, Athenry Road.
