Legendary American athletics coach to give insight into Preparation of Top Athletes
A 70 year-old Co. Mayo man, who has coached 26 Olympic athletes in a glorious athletics career stretching over four decades, is to give an insight into preparation of top athletes in an informative and practical seminar.
John McDonnell, the retired head coach of Arkansas University, will speak on “ Preparing a successful Athlete” in Breaffy House Hotel on Thursday 10th December at 8pm.
Mr. McDonnell, who is now holidaying in his native Crossmolina and has just being recognized in the Mayo People of the Year Awards is regarded as one of America’s finest ever coaches.
In total, he has been named national, regional or conference coach of the year a whopping 140 times.
“ Following last years successful seminar we are delighted that John has agreed to share his wide experience again with the sporting public in the region. This year he will particularly focus on the practical side in the preparation of athletes” said Mayo Sports Partnership Director Charlie Lambert.
Following an introductory talk John will utilize the fantastic indoor running track of the Breaffy Sports Hotel to demonstrate his hugely successful techniques. The chance to see such a highly respected coach in action is sure to attract people of all sporting persuasions to the Breaffy facility.
The seminar, facilitated by Mayo Sports Partnership in association with Mayo County Council, will take place in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, at 8pm.
