GOAL Kayathalon is a novel fundraising event in aid of GOAL’S Famine appeal. It is a triathlon consisting of a hike, a cycle and a paddle and will be held in Gleann an Mháma, Conamara on April 25 2009. The route is attached below. In this increasing time of financial difficulty for many, charities are struggling to provide funding for projects in the developing world and the Irish Government has recently pulled 95million from Irish Aid. In this world of ever- growing global interdependence, it is the poorest of the poor in the developing world who suffer

most.

The aim of this fundraising event is twofold:

(i) To raise as much money as possible for GOAL’S humanitarian work in faminestricken

areas of Africa such as Ethiopia, Darfur, Zimbabwe etc.

(ii) To raise awareness regarding the famines in Ethiopia, Darfur, Zimbabwe etc.

To this end we are trying to get as many schools, workplaces, sports clubs, societies,

companies etc involved in the fundraising. Each participant in the Kayathalon will represent a body from which the sponsorship will be collected. After the event an official GOAL certificate will be sent to the school/club thanking them for their support and for the funds raised. Each participant will receive sponsorship cards and also 300 flyers to distribute through their club/workplace etc to help with fundraising. They will also receive a

commemorative t-shirt on completion of the Kayathalon. We have a limited amount of gear (Bicycles, Kayaks etc) which may be provided to participants and these will be reserved for those who register a completed registration form to [email protected] (on a first come first serve basis). All participants must commit to raising a minimum €200, although most have already committed to considerably more.

If everyone tries to organize one corporate sponsor we will print company name (€100) or print company logo (€250) on the back of the 25,000 flyers. This has to be organized by 10th March for printing.

The GOAL Kayathalon promises to be an excellent day out in a beautiful part of the country. Together we will raise as much money as possible for GOAL’S work for the people of the Famine stricken areas of Africa.
