The BHAA, in both Dublin and Cork do fantastic work for runners and yet can remain unknown to many athletes outside of their immediate catchment areas. If you have the opportunity I'd highly recommend that you take part in one of the many superb races they organise each year. I cut my own running teeth in BHA races in Dublin and can vouch that there's a place for everyone and anyone at a BHAA race. They're competitive and relaxed, fun and serious, on road and across country. If you're travelling from the West to Dublin or Cork on business or leisure you should try to hook up with the BHAA somewhere along the way.
