Congratulations to the Longford Marathon Organisers and Sponsors on another outstanding set of races yesterday. Extracted results are below and a link is given to the event site where full detailed results can be accessed. Congratulations also to our own competitors on the day, Ray and Johnny O'Connor completed the full and half marathons respectively and Owen Curran, Michael McMahon and Garry Doherty blitzed the half marathon. Owen's time of 1:27:38 for the half being particularly impressive.
John Byrne of Mayo continued his winning ways in running 2:33:48 to just hold off Wieslaw Sosnowski and Sergiu Ciobanu in the men's marathon race while Mary B.Jennings added yet another victory to her impressive running resume in taking the women's marathon race. Mary has been a great friend to the Longford marathon and this will be a hugely popular win in many quarters.
The entries for the half-marathon may have suffered because of the proximity of the National Half-Marathon Championships which take place next weekend in Donegal, nevertheless Cian McLaughlin and Pauline Curley were worthy winners of their respective divisions in quality times. With so few quality half-marathon races on the Irish racing calendar it would be great if these two races had a little more 'distance' between them in years to come.
