Pat Callanan to Sponsor the ‘Fields’ 10k in Athenry
The ‘Fields of Athenry 10km’ road race was launched this week in Athenry at the offices of new race sponsor Pat Callanan Property Sales. The 17th edition of this popular race takes place on December 26th next and will follow the traditional route around the ‘Fields of Athenry’ to finish under the town’s famous medieval arch.
This race has been organised on the roads around the East Galway town each St. Stephen’s Day since 2002 and has developed into one of the premier road races on the Irish athletic calendar attracting both recreational and top-notch competitive athletes alike.
Race director Kieran Guiry said, “We’re thrilled that Pat Callanan has come on board as our major sponsor this year. We’ve always had massive support from the town for this event and having Pat’s support will allow us to put on a first class race.”
Anyone wishing to take on the challenge of running or walking the distance can enter the race on the club’s website at www.athenry10k.com. Last year over 1,000 people from all over the country took part and Athenry AC are expecting an even bigger entry this year.
