There have been some fine road races for us all to enjoy in recent weeks around Galway and for once the weather hasn't been too bad at all. Fond memories of the Maree 8k are still fresh in our minds and the Craughwell Fit for Life 5k and last Saturday's Kilconieron 5 Mile race were great days out.

Local photographer and keen athletics follower John O'Connor, himself an athlete of some standing in his day, was present at all three of these races with his camera to capture the action for posterity. For the first two of these races, Maree and Craughwell, the fruits of John's labours can be viewed in our photo gallery. There are two collections from Maree and another from Craughwell comprising over three hundred picture in total. We hope to have access to John's work from the Kilconieron race in a few days.

We owe a debt of gratitude to John for his fine contribution to our enjoyment of athletics. Having such high-quality reminders of our faltering efforts adds a whole new dimension to our enjoyment of these fine races.

Thanks John.

There is quite a large group of Galway runners heading to Ballycotton for the Ballycotton Ten this weekend.

John O'Connor was definitely "an athlete of some standing"---

Ballycotton Ten 1980-----John finished 11th in 51 minutes 23 seconds.
1981-----John was 16th in 53:54

Let us not forget that he was a sub 2 hours 30 minute marathoner.

Thanks for all the fantastic photos!!
