Athenry AC in Tuam

Loughrea's Jason Broderick made further progress in confirming his great athletic potential in winning the Tuam 8k Road Race yesterday. Jason posted a fine time of 26:26 around an admitedly fast town-based course. GCH were ably represented at the front of the race on the day by Ian Egan. Ian, who has always fared well on the roads around Tuam, ran with Jason in the early stages of the race but couldn't in the end match the Loughra prodigy's blistering pace. Loughrea AC also provided the third placed finisher on the day as 'super-vet' Martin Corcoran cross thie line hot on Ian Egan's heels. Martin, who only took up running a few short years ago has progressed in leaps and bounds recently and this was yet another fine run to his credit.

Athenry AC had a strong representation in the men's race as can be seen from the photo above and there were strong performances from James Lundon and Mick Rice both of whom posted personal bests for the 8k distance. At the other end of the scale Ray O'Connor proclaimed to one and all that he had posted his first PW (Personal Worst) of the year despite running a strong race.

The event was very well organised and the thanks and congratulations of all Athenry runners goes to our near neighbours in Tuam for hosting such a great day's sport. Some more photographs from the race can be seen in the gallery.
