Athenry's own Paul Hession travels to Osaka this week to compete in the World Athletics Championships. For a club like Athenry AC to have a member travelling to such a prestigious championships is a great, great honour and we're all so pleased that Paul has earned this opportunity for himself.
Paul's event, the 200m doesn't get underway until next Tuesday the 28th August at 11:10 when the first round heats will take place. If my amateur mathematics are correct and Osaka is eight hours ahead of us here in Ireland that means that Pauls' race will be some time between 03:00 and 04:00 depending on which heat he is allocated to. The 200m quarter finals take place the following day, Wednesday the 29th of October at 20:10 local time which is 12:10 Irish time. The semi's are the following day, Thursday at 22:20 Osaka time which is 14:40 in this part of the world. Should Paul make the final, it takes place on Thursday the 30th of August, once again at 22:20 local time in Osaka which is 14:20 here.
Give 'em hell Paul...!
